Defense science and technology group which provides science and technology information support to the Australian military is a part of the Australian department of defense. It was first founded in 1974 as Defense science and technology organization by agglomeration of Australian defense scientific service and science branch of the department of defense. Later in 2015, it was changed to Defense Science and Technology Group. Various services such as science and technical support to defense operations, building new innovative technologies to ramp up the weapons quality and efficiency, to alter the old system of weapons with new technologies in a cost-efficient way, to enhance the security operations, giving suggestions for smart purchase of weapons by researching current trends on science etc. were delivered to gain advancement in the defense system. Its headquarters is in Australia’s capital, Canberra. It is the second largest government-funded organization in Australia. They are one of the members in the Technical Cooperation program with New Zealand, United Kingdom, and the United States. In 1997 a new program called Capability and Technology Demonstrator program (CTD) was established by the Australian government to deliver new innovative technologies to enhance the defense operations. It is under the control of DST.
